We started Flex because we know that expert engineering advice should also come with friendly, professional and collaborative service. The best results always happen when you work together with a client as one team, which is why we view all of our client relationships as a partnership. Flex is different, and able to achieve this because we maintain constant, open lines of communication. We start each project by gaining an understanding of our clients and their goals. We seek regular feedback to ensure expectations are met and results realised.

Our years of industry experience on every stage of projects both large and small enables us to assist on all kinds of engineering projects.

Structural Engineering

Design, documentation and certification of structures ranging from small residential renovations through to multi-dwelling or multi-use new builds.

Construction Engineering

Analysis and design of temporary structures to ensure the safety and stability of buildings during construction.

Remedial Engineering

Investigating the cause and extent of defects within a structure and providing long term solutions for their remediation.

Civil/Stormwater Engineering

Design, documentation, and certification of minor civil earthworks, pavements, and residential stormwater drainage systems.

The Flex Team

We created Flex to solve complex problems in simple ways. This is how we solve engineering problems, and how we run our company. Our team shares our commitment to efficiency, simplicity, collaboration, and growth. Together we break down our process to ensure that our clients are involved at every step, from sketches, to analysis and modelling, design documentation, face-to-face discussions and on-site inspections.

Meet Sean Whelan

Sean Whelan

Sean is a structural engineer with over 12 years’ experience working on a wide variety of projects ranging from large scale infrastructure and commercial projects to small scale residential renovations. He particularly enjoys projects with complex site constraints including working with existing structures. Sean loves working through a problem, turning it into sketches, calculations, drawings and then, finally seeing a project come to life. He is a strong believer in the bonds created through collaboration between him and his clients.

If you work with Sean you’ll discover his pragmatic approach, eye for efficiencies in construction, and his passion for environmentally friendly construction practices.

Meet Tiffany Lu

Tiffany Lu

Tiffany is a structural engineer who loves problem solving, especially when structures are involved. In 2021 she graduated from UNSW with excellence in a Master of Engineering Science and is constantly inspired by the many projects she sees coming to life around her. Tiffany loves how engineering allows her to combine creativity with precision. 

If you work with Tiffany you’ll discover her eagerness to please her clients, her love of sketching and drawing, and her value-centric approach.

Meet Tiree Norman-Bell

Tiree Norman-Bell

Tiree is a relative newcomer to structural engineering, having graduated from the University of Auckland with First Class Honours in 2025. He brings a unique perspective to engineering design and has already developed an advanced eye for detail. He loves the intricacy of structural design and the satisfaction he gets from watching his designs come to life.
