Working within the constraints of an existing home, we developed a structural solution to maximise the performance of the existing structure using a minimum of new materials. A detailed analysis of the existing roof trusses showed that only minimal strengthening was required to carry the increased load of the new roof tiles, allowing us to utilise as much of the original structure as possible.
Reclaimed timber was used in structural applications throughout the house, a natural fit for a project that upgrades rather than replaces an existing dwelling. Reclaimed hardwood beams frame the entry and carry through to the external living areas, while concealed steelwork allowed internal walls to be removed, opening the kitchen and living areas into a single connected space.
